Psychosis & Schizophrenia
Hallucinations, paranoia and thought disorder — treated without alarm.
Psychosis is treatable, and early treatment changes long-term outcomes more than almost anything else in psychiatry. Many people delay because they expect to be dismissed or frightened. What you will get here is a straight conversation about what is happening and what the medication is actually for.
How care usually works
Assessment rules out substance-induced and medical causes, then focuses on antipsychotic treatment chosen around side-effect burden — weight, movement effects and sedation — because a medication you stop is not a treatment. Metabolic and movement monitoring is routine, and I include family or supports in planning when you want them there. Telehealth is not appropriate for acute crisis, and I will say so and help arrange a higher level of care.
What we focus on
- Diagnostic assessment including substance and medical causes
- Antipsychotic management chosen around side-effect tolerance
- Routine metabolic and movement monitoring
- Relapse-warning planning with family or chosen supports
